French Press: how to brew it
French Press
Coarse grind
Tuned for Regular Blend - South Indian Filter Coffee, 80:20, Medium-Dark.
- Coffee
- 30 g
- Water
- 500 ml about 2 cups
- Water temperature
- 89 °C — boiled, then left a minute and a half A medium-dark roast dissolves faster and turns bitter if you push it. Robusta dissolves faster than arabica and gets bitter sooner.
- Brew time
- 3 minutes Robusta dissolves faster than arabica and gets bitter sooner. A Natural coffee gives its fruit up early and its ferment late.
That is a ratio of 1:17, if you would rather scale it.
- Add the coffee and all the water at once.
- Leave it four minutes, then break the crust with a spoon.
- Lift the foam off the top.
- Press the plunger down slowly and pour it all out.
- It is ground for this brewer already. If it runs through too fast, use a little more coffee rather than reaching for a finer grind.
- 80:20 coffee and chicory. It brews darker and faster than coffee alone, so pull it a touch short.
- Robusta is what a South Indian filter is built on. It carries the body and the kick, and it is meant to taste like this.
- Roasted 6 days ago, which is about as good as it gets.
Ground coarse for this brewer before it was bagged.
